Repair matched to the mechanism

This service focuses on mechanical faults in balcony doors: handles, the parts that transfer handle movement, locking components, hinges and tilt mechanisms. We assess whether an existing component can be repaired or whether a compatible replacement is needed. We agree the work and cost after identifying the construction, before starting the repair.

Door and hardware details

Photos from the existing DomoSerwis gallery show a balcony door’s lower corner and hardware components. The other close-ups are window details, illustrating the types of mechanisms assessed during diagnosis.

When does a balcony door need repair?

Similar symptoms can have different causes: sash alignment, frame keeps or a damaged hardware component. We inspect the mechanism before selecting a replacement part.

The handle is jammed

The handle stops before reaching the closing or tilt position. We inspect the handle, safety device, locking components and the interaction between the sash and frame.

The handle turns without a result

The door does not respond, or some locking points remain still. The connection between the handle and mechanism, and the locking strip, need inspection.

The sash will not open normally

We establish the position in which the mechanism has stopped and whether a damaged part prevents movement. The approach depends on the construction and access to the hardware.

A hinge or tilt mechanism is faulty

We inspect fixings, play, the stay and components supporting the heavy sash. A mechanical fault needs assessment before further attempts to use the door.

We inspect the system, not just the handle

During inspection, we check how movement from the handle reaches the locking points. This includes the locking strip, corner components, frame keeps, hinges and tilt mechanism. We also assess whether the position of the sash is putting strain on otherwise serviceable parts. This helps distinguish damaged hardware from resistance caused by alignment.

If a handle gearbox or cassette appears faulty, we identify the hardware type, markings and connections. Parts that look alike are not necessarily interchangeable. Repair or replacement depends on the mechanism’s condition and the availability of a suitable part.

What can mechanism repair include?

After diagnosis, we explain which component is not working and what action is appropriate. The work may involve a handle, hinge, corner drive, tilt stay, locking mechanism or another worn hardware component. If replacement is necessary, we check compatibility with the existing system rather than choosing a part on appearance alone.

A fault does not always require a complete hardware replacement. Equally, replacing one part is not appropriate in every case. We assess the remaining components, their interaction and the condition of their fixings before making a recommendation. If finding or checking a compatible solution requires another step, we agree that step before ordering parts.

Mechanism repair or ordinary adjustment?

If the door only rubs against the threshold, has uneven pressure or needs sash alignment, and the hardware is serviceable, adjustment may be sufficient. Our window and balcony door adjustment page explains that work. This page focuses on jammed or damaged mechanisms and the selection of compatible replacement parts.

Adjustment cannot restore a broken or worn component. Replacing a serviceable handle will not remove resistance caused by an incorrectly positioned sash either. After repair, we check opening, closing, tilting and locking within the operation supported by the system. If another fault requires separate work, we explain it before agreeing any additional repair.

Photos help us prepare for the visit

Tell us whether the door is currently open, closed or tilted, and when the problem started. Send a view of the whole door, its handle, the visible hardware edge and the damaged area. Manufacturer markings help identify the system when they are visible without dismantling. Include your district and the number of doors that need inspection.

Do not force the sash or dismantle the mechanism to take a picture. Photograph accessible components in the current position. Photos support initial assessment; the exact scope may require inspection at the door. Cost depends on the fault, access, necessary parts and agreed work.

Questions before a visit

Useful details before you contact us or arrange a visit.

Does a spinning handle always need a new handle?

No. The fault may be in the connection to the mechanism or a component within the hardware. We first check where movement stops being transferred.

Can you choose a replacement part from a photo?

Photos and markings help identify the system. Checking compatibility may require dimensions, the fixing method and inspection of the other components at the door.

Can I contact you if the door only rubs on the threshold?

Yes. We check the cause. If the mechanism is serviceable, adjustment may be enough; we do not assume that hardware must be replaced.

Let’s identify the right repair

Describe the fault and send photos. We will agree the inspection and next steps. Repair and cost are confirmed after diagnosis.
