Why the door no longer stays against the frame

A worn catch, displaced keep, loose fixing or dropped sash can cause the problem. If the components miss each other as the door closes, simply choosing a stronger catch will not correct their alignment. We inspect the parts on the sash and frame, along with the effort needed to pull the door shut.

Draughts are a separate issue. The main fittings compress the seals when the internal handle locks the door. Air leakage in that position needs an assessment of alignment, seals and locking.

A catch and pull suited to your door

Profile, fittings, space and fixings determine suitability. Mechanical and magnetic designs differ; their parts are not automatically interchangeable. We check the sash component and keep as a compatible combination.

The small external pull makes it easier to draw the sash towards you. It needs a sound mounting position and comfortable hand clearance. It does not operate the lock. The chosen arrangement must preserve normal use of the internal handle and the existing door function.

Does a balcony catch lock the door with a key?

No. It holds the pulled-shut sash; it does not provide a lock or replace handle-operated locking.

Can a catch be added to an existing balcony door?

Often yes, after checking the profile, fittings and mounting space. One set will not fit every door.

Will an external pull hold the door shut on its own?

No. It helps you pull the door towards the frame. Holding it there is the catch’s separate function.

Will replacing the catch remove a draught?

Not necessarily. Air leakage when the door is handle-locked requires a check of alignment, compression and seals.
