Why a lever droops or opening becomes difficult

Wear can affect the return spring, spindle connection, fixings or lock. Door misalignment may also put pressure on the latch. Replacing only the handle can leave the underlying problem unresolved.

We check lever return and latch movement with the door open and closed. For a pull handle, we inspect its fixing and supporting material. A loose handle does not automatically require a new door.

Matching the handle to the door

For entrance, office and aluminium doors, important details include spindle section and length, the distance between the handle and cylinder centres, fixing holes, door thickness and profile width. A pull handle also needs suitable mounting positions and a compatible fixing arrangement. Similar colour or shape is not proof of compatibility.

We discuss how the door should operate from both sides. Fire doors and escape routes require particular care to preserve the intended function and suitable hardware. A standard lever is not an automatic substitute for panic exit hardware. These requirements must be considered before selecting replacement parts.

Work agreed after inspection

Work may include fixing repair or handle, rose, backplate or pull replacement, followed by operation checks. Lock case faults, hinge problems and misaligned keeps may need different repairs. We explain and agree additional work beforehand.

What to send before a visit

Photograph the complete door, the handle or pull from both sides, the lock edge and any visible markings. Explain whether the lever droops, the fixing moves, or the difficulty occurs only when the door is closed. Tell us whether it serves a flat, shop, office or building entrance, and give the location.

Does a drooping lever mean the lock has failed?

Not always. The handle spring, spindle connection or lock can cause the symptom. We check them separately.

Can a loose pull handle on an aluminium door be tightened?

Sometimes the fixing can be repaired. Its design and the condition of the profile must be inspected first.

Can you match a replacement to an old backplate?

We check centres, fixing holes, spindle and door thickness. Appearance alone is not enough to choose a replacement.
