Identify the hardware, not just the window brand
Winkhaus hardware can be fitted to a differently branded frame profile. Generations include autoPilot and activPilot. Octagonal cams are an activPilot clue; markings and the installed assembly still need confirmation.
Photograph the strip beside the handle, top corner and hinges. A handle name may identify only the handle. You do not need the exact hardware model to contact us.
Closing resistance needs more than a pressure adjustment
We check sash position, cam engagement, gasket condition and movement through the gearbox and corner drives. Scraping, draughts and a handle that stops short can have different causes. Indiscriminate pressure adjustment can make operation harder.
- Handle will not reach the closed position: check the locking sequence and drive.
- Sash catches at the bottom: inspect hinges, fixings and alignment.
- Tilt function fails: inspect the scissor stay and mishandling device.
Repair options for the identified system
Sound components may need adjustment and maintenance at the points specified for their hardware. Cracked parts, worn connections or a failed drive require a separate assessment. We do not select an autoPilot or activPilot component simply because it looks similar to the damaged one.

Does a broken fitting mean replacing the whole window?
No. We assess the frame, sash and failed mechanism before recommending repairs. A hardware fault alone does not justify complete replacement.
Can a part be ordered from the octagonal cam alone?
The cam helps identify an activPilot solution. It does not confirm every dimension or connection needed to match the replacement.
Will stronger closing pressure stop a draught?
Adjustment helps when the setting is the cause. We also inspect the gasket, keeps and sash position.
Can older autoPilot fittings be assessed?
